What?

Hey all! for the next in my little introduction series, I give you my "what". What the heck do I do? What will I be doing this summer? What is on this website you've found yourself on?

My "what" is pretty simple. I am the girl that sells you your cool concert t-shirt or poster. Yup, you got it right! Sounds simple, right? Trust me, it's anything but! I've been in the merch business for about three years now, and it's all about numbers, math, counting, and keeping track of things. To be good at merch you have to be on your game at all times, no matter how crazy things can get. If your lucky, you work for an awesome band that impresses everyone and sells tons of merch, but that means you have to be prepared to handle the masses, which can get pretty messy at times. This summer i'll be holding down fort at the I Fight Dragons tent, talking with fans, selling you our awesome wares, counting and folding shirts, and much much more. If you happen to be at any Warped Tour stops this summer, please feel free to come and say hi, I'd love to make new friends as I go! Merch might be demanding, but never too demanding to make a new friend :) If you're interested in learning the tecnical side of band merch, numbers, etc., I will be doing a post on that later on as I get going this summer, so stay tuned for Merch Math 101!

On this website is everything and anything you'll need to follow along with me as I start work this summer with I Fight Dragons. On the right-side of the page, you can find social media links to just about any type of network you could imagine: twitter, instagram, Linkedin, my personal Tumblr, Flickr, and a quick RSS feed link. Below those images, you'll find a snippet of my Twitter feed, and even further down? A list of links to pages that have something - anything - to do with me, my blog, or what i'm doing out on the road this summer. This site also hosts a slew of my photography work, a sample of my resume, and a brief "about me" section to help answer any questions you might have.

Who?

Alright blog, it's about time that you and I really start to kick things off. It'd be smart if i made sure anyone on here actually knows what all this is about, and so here, for you, is what they taught me all those years ago in kindergarten: the who, what, where, when, and why detailing everything and anything you'll want to know for this summer.

Today's topic: WHO? Who am I, and who's the band i'll be traveling with?

I'll keep this pretty straightforward, plain and simple. I'm Maddie. I turn 20 years old on June 11th, I have two younger brothers, and come from a tiny, adorable, wonderful suburb just west of the glorious Denver, Colorado. I am currently studying Music & Entertainment Industry Studies at the University of Colorado at Denver, meaning i spend the academic months of the year writing papers on Radiohead, and doing math to find out how much money a band will make if they sell out Red Rocks. I absolutely love the school i go to, and feel like I have really learned a ton in the two years I have spent on campus. Wether it's working with fellow classmates, or being taught by a diverse and well-versed teaching staff, I don't think I could have picked a better program to learn and study in.

I spend most of my free time away from school at concerts, hanging with friends, or enjoying the outdoors. I spend a good chunk of that time working with Denver-based bands Bop Skizzum, Air Dubai, and the Flobots. This past year I started work writing for Denver-based music blog Ultra5280 as well, and have loved growing more into my role in the Denver music scene by having an outlet to voice my passion for great local music. You can find more about me in the "About" section of the website, but that's the basics!

Now, about this crazy little band I'm working for... I Fight Dragons

The craziest bunch of nerds you'll ever meet, I fight Dragons is a 5-piece rock outfit based out of Chicago, IL who likes to do things just a bit differently. Using NES controllers, old GameBoy's, and amazing lyrics, this group's music sounds straight out of a 90's video game. If you're looking for something new, uplifting, fun, or just different, they are the band for you. Touring this year as a part of the Vans Warped Tour, this rocking nerd band will be hitting a city near you soon... are you ready to have your mind go "KABOOM!"??

Welcome, one and all...

to the beginning of this crazy little adventure i'm calling my website.

Here to keep the cyber world up-to-date regarding all things me, this website is turning into the official hub containing everything and anything you would want or need to know about Maddie.

The idea behind this blog is simple: I'll be keeping track of all my adventures as I take my first steps into the touring world. This summer I will be embarking on my first national tour, traveling across the US with Chicago-based band I Fight Dragons on the Vans Warped Tour. Trust me, it isn't going to be easy, but I know i'll be learning more than i ever thought possible, so why not share it with the world along the way? This blog will be a constant update on what it's like working such a huge tour, being a girl in the music business, my experiences and all my lessons learned along the way. This little journey begins in 24 days when I leave Denver. Until then, i'll be blogging about my preparations and what it takes to leave town for two months and still have anything to come home to when it's all said and done.

Questions? Comments? Be sure to let me know!

Until then,

xoxo
